Day 4 of the World Series of Poker Main Event Ends with 464 Players Left

The fourth day of the 55th annual World Series of Poker main event ended with 464 of the 10,112 starters left in contention for the $10 million first prize.

When the day started the 1540 players who returned were just 23 places, short of the prize money.

Sadly, for those few players, there was to be no payday, and it was a tragic bubble time exit for Lucas Reeves, who had been the largest stacked British player left in the field at the start of the day.

He ran his pocket kings into pocket aces and despite having a large stack just before the hand began, he was forced to make the walk of shame as the bubble boy.

Chip Leaders at the end of Day 4 of the 2024 WSOP Main Event

The two chip leaders at the end of the four are both previous World Series of poker bracelet winners. Stephen Song, the 2022 GPI POY leads the way with 4.745m chips with Spain’s Adrian Mateos in second place on 4.5m.

In total seven players surpassed the 4 million chip barrier on the deadliest day of the event, when 70% of the remaining players were eliminated.

Former WSOP Main Event Champions All Out!

Included in the Day 4 RIP list were all four remaining former WSOP Main Event Champions, ensuring that there will be a new winner this time round. That was basically a certainty anyway, but now it’s confirmed.

The last standing former champion was Joe McKeehan, exiting in 725th place, just minutes after Koray Aldemir busted in 732nd. Robert Varkonyi in 784th and Scott Blumstein in 1,400th were the other former winners who started the day.

Faces Left in the Field

There are still many well known and successful players left vying for the ultimate prize in poker. These include many former bracelet winners, such as Jesse Lonis (2,520,000), Brandon Cantu (2,320,000) and Alex Livingston (1,995,000) who has been one of the largest stacks for the last few days of the event.

Although Daniel Negreanu was elimiated soon after the bubble burst, another GG Poker Ambassador,  Ren Lin is still going strong on 1,920,000, having been uo to almost 3m chips at one point in the day.

Also still running well is ACR Poker ambassador Nacho Barbero (1,620,000) who is just ahead of Brian Rast (1,605,000).

World Poker Tour Host Tony Dunst is also still playing, commanding a stack of 1,335,000, which is just above the average for the remaining players.

Bye Bye Miss American Pie

British Bust Outs

t wasn’t a great day for British Players, with most of those who started Day 4 not making it any further in the competition.

Lucas Reeves definitely has the best bad beat story, but there were likely plenty of cruel exits for 46 of the 64 British players who started the day. Both Jacob Stone and John Duthie, who were among the top five British chip counts failed to progress.

Other British players who saw their tournament come to an end, albeit in the prize money:

1,511th - Andrew Wilson - $1,500
1,423rd - Jon Shoreman - $1,500
1,392nd - John Duthie - $1,500
1,335th - Jonathan Wong - $1,500
1.259th - Luke Porter - $1,500
1,184th - Roland Boothby - $17,500
1,039th - John Kabbaj - $1,7500
864th - Martins Adeniya - $22,500
724th - Rob Sherwood - $27,500
637th - Andrew Hedley - $30,000

British Big Stacks

Guillermo Sanchez Otero, who has been well stacked throughout most of the tournament so far, is the biggest stacked of the 18 British players left in the tournament.

He bagged up the 14th biggest stack of the day,  3,285,000 and lies in 14th place overall. He is almost 1m chips ahead of 66th placed Yaroslav Shkylar, the second placed Brit remaining in the field.

Christopher Brammer is the only UK bracelet winner left in contention, with an average stacked 1.3m, while the shortest stack of the last standing Brits belongs to Ian Bradley, on 340,000.
