This is PokerWired’s WSOP 2024 Players’ Guide, in which we take a deep look at different aspects of the schedule.

In part one of the series we looked at the new events making their first appearance on a WSOP schedule. In part two we examined the Marquee (multi-starting-day) events that have become the hallmark of WSOP schedules in recent years. In part three we perused the Championship events. In part four we mulled over the non-Hold'em events on the tournament schedule.

In this fifth edition of the series we investigate the satellite schedules and daily deepstack tournaments on the 2024 WSOP schedule.

Most of the bracelet events have quite costly buy-ins for the average poker player (with a few notable exceptions such as the Gladiator). For many players, their main fare when visiting the World Series of Poker will be the daily deepstack tournaments, which run three times per day.

Others may wish to take a shot at getting into one of the big money bracelet events and there is an extensive schedule of satellite tournaments to help with this ambition. In this edition we take a look at the Satellite and Daily Deepstack schedules at the 2024 WSOP.

WSOP 2024 Underway

The WSOP is now underway. News and results of completed events can be found on PokerWired's WSOP Bracelet Winners page, updated regularly throughout the 2024 WSOP.

Satellite Tournaments

The format of live satellites to WSOP events has been changed for 2024. Over the last few years most live poker operators have made the same switch, abandoning the traditional satellite format where the tournament ends when the  number of players left is exactly number of seats being awarded to the target event.

The new format, for which each operator has slightly confusingly given a different name. The WPT calls them milestone satellites and the WSOP has chosen to call them Landmark satellites. In this format a target number of chips is pre-determined and once players have built a chip stack that is equal or greater to that target, they are awarded a seat in the target event and their chips are removed from play. It is a more exciting format and speeds up the process for most of the seat winners.

While the format of the satellites has changed, the schedule remains similar to that of the previous year, including some satellites into specific target events and some which award casino chips as their prize.

The satellites that award casino chips give players full flexibility to decide which event to use their winnings to play. As the prize in these is casino chips, you can also use them to play casino games, or simply cash them out at the casino cage and use it for something entirely different. Those Las Vegas nightclubs ain’t cheap and weed is now legal in the state of Nevada.

Qualify Online to the WSOP Main Event

If you prefer to have your seat in the Main Event locked up before you travel to Las Vegas, there are qualifying options on GG Poker. The world's largest online poker site's Road to Vegas satellite promotion awards $12,000 packages to the Main Event, including $2,000 towards travel expenses and hotel accommodation. 1,000 packages will be awarded throughout the qualification period, which runs until close to the start of the Main Event on July 3, 2024.

New players can use the GG Poker Promo Code WIRED for a sign up bonus of up to $600.

Main Event Satellite Schedule

The tournament that has the most direct satellites scheduled into it is obviously the $10,000 Championship Main Event. These don’t run throughout the entire series, but they dominate the qualification offering from the beginning of July. Buy-ins to main event satellites are either $580, $1,100 or $2,200, however there are also feeder satellites for $145 or $260, offering a chance to gain your way into the bigger buy-in direct satellites for less.

Speciality Event Satellites

In addition to the main event, the $5,000 and $10,000 buy-in bracelet events all have specific satellites to enable players to qualify directly into them. These take place at 7pm on the day before their target event. Satellites to the $5,000 speciality events also give players the option to takle $5,000 in casino chips as an alternative to  seat into the target event.

Mystery Bounty and Gladiators of Poker Satellites
