WPT Global’s $8.5m Fall Festival Postponed

WPT Global was set to start its Fall Festival on Sunday 8th September, with $8.5m in guarantees, including $3m of guarantees in the site’s newly released mystery bounty format.

However in a Tweet on Sunday morning, the site quietly announced that the Fall Festival has been postponed, due to “unforeseen difficulties”. There is no news yet about when the rescheduled festival will take place, but WPT Global has vowed to come back with something “even better” later this year.

No further details have been given to explain the nature of the unforeseen difficulties, but it could have been related to the site’s newly released Mystery Bounty format. However some players are suggesting that the reason could be linked to the site not having enough tournament liquidity to ensure that missed guarantees are not too costly.

The site posted over $1m in overlays for its recent Summer Festival, however overlays are not a new phenomenon on the site, in fact CEO Alex Scott has frequently talked about this as being a deliberate strategy.

Players who had won tickets into Fall Festival Events will be compensated.
